WHITNEY Houston came “face to face with the devil” during wild drug binges, her former sister-in-law has claimed. Tina Brown, whose brother Bobby was married to the star for almost 15 years, also said Whitney was convinced Satan regularly beat her black and blue.
But the bruises on her legs and body were self-inflicted while she was high on crack cocaine for days and even weeks. Tina said: “She was always convinced that demons were out to get her when she was high. “On one occasion she told me she was staring at the face of the devil himself…but it was her reflection. “She stared at cracks in cups, saucers, mugs and plates and said she saw demonic lips. “She saw demons everywhere.”
Most shocking was the time when Whitney, known as Nip to family, playfully asked to wear a pull-up nappy meant for Tina’s disabled child. As she pulled down her jeans to put it on, Tina said: “I recoiled when I saw her legs. There were black and blue bruises up and down them. I said ‘Nip, what the hell?’
“Her answer frightened me even more. She said, ‘The devil be hitting me. I walked by and he just go bam!’ “I asked her if Bobby knew but she said, ‘No, no. It’s going to be all right. You know, I rebuke the devil. He’s always hitting me’. “But it was obvious Whitney was hitting herself and later I saw her do it.”
Whitney and Tina started taking drugs together in 2004. Tina claims it was Whitney who suggested they “call some dealers” to prolong a party which “went on for about 24 days”. Dealers came and went, delivering cocaine, crack cocaine and marijuana. Tina claimed the singer would regularly order “eight balls” – chunks of crack cocaine weighing an eighth of an ounce each.
Tina, who has been in jail for drug possession, said: “She’d cut open a cigar, take the tobacco out, put in marijuana and the whole piece of crack and puff away.” She told how a drug dealer once called the house after Whitney had been missing for days. The star had been living in his squalid drug den – and even he had had enough of her.
Tina said: “This dealer called Bobby and said, ‘Come get your wife. I’m sick of this bitch. She’s in here peeping out the windows and doing all kinds of shit in the house’.”
Tina recalled another time when Whitney’s mum Cissy and other family members tried to save her. “Her mom told her she either had to get into rehab or she would have her locked up and she might lose her daughter Bobbi Kristina.
“When she got high, she would imagine concealed wires and spy cameras were everywhere. She would get a screwdriver and take things apart to find the cameras.”
Whitney’s demon visions also got worse.
“She’d suddenly stop, point at the floor and say, ‘See that demon? I’m telling you, somebody’s messing with Bobby’.”
Eventually the sisters-in-law fell out after Tina decided to get clean and then sold photos of the squalor and drugs paraphernalia inside Whitney’s home.
Now, after her death, Tina is touting her memoirs around New York book publishers looking for a buyer.
